Before I begin, I’d like to establish what I’d consider as an extremely rare model. I consider any model that is as rare or rarer than the Air New Zealand 747 and old Aer Lingus A330 as extremely rare. My definition of “extremely rare” is a little lower than a lot of other collectors. For more precise information about these models, visit the “planes list” page.
1 and 2. Air New Zealand 747 & 777
The Air New Zealand 747 and 777 were both distributed by Stewards Toys and Hobbies before 2010, and the 747 went on to be distributed by Daron after 2010, with a different box design. The 777 did not go on to be distributed by Daron, which is why it’s rarer. They were both exclusively available in Australia and/or New Zealand, which is why they’re so rare. They both came in single planes, but I unfortunately don’t have the boxes. I got these off eBay.us from Australia.
3. Qantas gold stripe A380
The Qantas gold stripe A380 was exclusively available in Australia for a short period of time around 2008. It was distributed by Daron as a single planes. I got this off eBay.us.
4. TAM A330
The TAM A330 was made around 2008 as an inflight playset. It was distributed by Daron on TAM Airlines flights. This is one of my favorite models, because it’s an amazing plane, and has 6 vehicles with 3 custom signs. I got this off eBay.us from the U.S.
5 and 6: Aer Lingus A330 playset and single plane
The Aer Lingus A330 was distributed by Premier Portfolio as a single plane and normal playset in the UK. It is a great, highly detailed plane with many details, and even a model stand with the single plane. I got both of these of eBay.us from the UK.
7. Virgin Atlantic A340
The Virgin Atlantic A340 was distributed by Premier Portfolio as a small twin set around the mid 2000s. It’s one of my favorite models, I love the glint, and how it says A340-600 instead of 300. It was exclusively available in the UK. I got this one from eBay.us from the UK.
8. Martinair 747 (red titles)
The first “never before seen” model! Although this has been seen on Instagram a couple times, this is the only known one with red titles. It also has a never before seen box, which is very important in my opinion. There is also a pre-93 version of it that came in a “box of chocolates” box format. It was distributed by Nickname in the Netherlands around the mid 90s. I got this off of Catawiki from the Netherlands.
9. Eurowings A320
The Eurowings A320 was distributed by Lupa as a “box of chocolates” format set. It was exclusively available in Germany around the early 2000s. It’s a very detailed and unique set. I got this off eBay.de from Germany.
10. United Continental livery 787
The United old livery 787 was distributed by Daron as a large twin set around 2009, and had a very limited production span. It’s my only extremely rare model that wasn’t an exclusive. I got it off eBay.us from the US.
11. Airbus A380 playset
Although the Airbus A380 is a common plane, it is extremely rare and hard to find as a playset. This specific version was distributed by Lupa in the mid-late 2000s. It’s a very weird and interesting model, because it has generic vehicles, has six of them, and one (the yellow tow truck), is only made in this set. In case you were wondering, yes, all the vehicles are towable, including the plane. It’s also the only (known) Lupa distributed normal sized playset. I got this off eBay.us from the US.
12. Alitalia 747
The Alitalia 747 is a pre 1993 model. A lot of Realtoy collectors don’t consider them as Realtoys, but it has the Realtoy logo on the box, so it would be silly not to count it. It has never been seen as a single plane before. I love it because of how old and retro the livery is, and how rare it is. It was distributed by Peterkin as a single plane, and Chad Valley as a large set. I got it off eBay.uk from the UK.
13. SAS 767
The SAS 767 is one of the rarest planes in my collection, as it has never been seen with the box and stuff
14. South African A380
The South African A380 was exclusively available somewhere, most likely South Africa. It was made sometime between 2006 and 2011. Mine has a manufacturing date of December 29th, 2009. Even though it’s a fictional model, it’s still a great and highly detailed plane. It also has my favorite tail of any plane. I got this from a trade.
15. SAS 747
If I had a nickel for every never before seen pre 1993 SAS model I have, I would have two nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that I would have two. This model was made sometime in the 80s, before being replaced by the newer white livery 747. It also is the plane with the oldest livery, which was replaced by the striped belly livery in 1983. It was distributed by Peterkin in the UK and/or Scandinavia. It’s such an amazing and vibrant model, especially the bright blue cheatline. I got this off eBay.uk from the UK.
16 and 17. Both versions of the pre 1993 Swissair 747
The Swissair pre 1993 747s were made sometime around the mid 80s to early 90s. The oldest one has the Wing Luem logo (the facility where they were made) on the box, and has a multicolored cheatline. The newer and more well known one has the Realtoy logo on the box, and has a green cheatline. Although the planes aren’t too rare, they have (as far as I know) never been seen. They were distributed by Peterkin in Switzerland and/or the UK. I got them off eBay.uk from the UK.
18. El Al 747
The El Al 747 was made around the mid 2000s, as a single plane and inflight playset. I think the set was sold on flights and the single plane was distributed worldwide, but I’m not sure. It was distributed by Daron. It is such a well done set, with an amazing box, vehicles, and plane. I especially like all the details on the plane. I got this off eBay.us from the US.
19. Denver International Airport 747
The Denver International Airport 747 was made for a short period of time around 2009, and was only available in the Denver Airport. It is a fictional model, but is still a great one. Unfortunately very little is known about it. Some interesting details include white square windows on the lower deck, and circular black windows on top, blue horizontal stabilizers, and gray engines. It is such a goofy model, and it has such a good livery. I got this off eBay.us from Denver.
20. Air France A330
The Air France A330 was made around the mid to late 2000s, before 2009. It was distributed by Socatec in France, as an inflight playset and normal playset. I like the font of the titles, the tail, and all the detail. I got it off eBay from Japan.
21 and 22. Lufthansa pre 1993 747s
Both of these models are identical, except the logos on the box, with the older one having the Wing Luem logo, and the newer one having the Realtoy logo. These were distributed by Peterkin as single planes, which I think have never been seen before. They were exclusively available in Germany. I got these off eBay.uk from the UK.
23. LAB 767
The LAB 767 was distributed by Daron on LAB flights for a short period of time around 2008 as an inflight playset. It’s such a cool and interesting model, and I love the retro livery on it. I got it off eBay.us from the US.
24. Amazon Prime Air 767
Another never before seen model! The Prime Air 767 was made for a short time in late 2024, with most likely one manufacturing run. It was exclusively given out at a Prime Air facility in Cincinnati. It was discontinued most likely because of the new Prime Air livery. I bought all of these from an eBay.us listing from the US.
25. TACA A320
The TACA A320 was made around the mid 2000s as a playset. It was exclusively available on TACA flights. I love the livery, especially the tail and the red streak on the front. I got it off eBay.us from the US.
26. Air Canada A340 bagged playset
Although the Air Canada A340 isn’t very rare, I’ve never seen it or any other normal sized playset in a bag. My guess is that it was an exclusive version on Air Canada flights. At first I was skeptical that it was real, but the bag has the same writing and stuff that other inflight playsets have from the 90s. I got this off eBay.us from the US.
27 and 28. RAAF F-18 and F-35
Although these aren’t traditional Daron planes, they’re still a cool piece of Daron history. These were made in 2021 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the RAAF. Although the F-35 looks very unrealistic, it’s a cool set, especially since some of the profits from it go to restoring historic RAAF aircraft. They were exclusively sold in Australia and on some Australian websites. I got mine from camaust.com.au from Australia.
29. KLM pre 1993 747
The KLM pre 1993 747 was made around the late 80s to early 90s. The single plane was distributed by Peterkin in the Netherlands and/or the UK. I got it off eBay.uk from the UK.
30. I Fly To Singapore A380
The I Fly To Singapore A380 was made for a short period of time in 2014, and was only available in Discover Singapore shops in Singapore. It was distributed by Socrates as a single plane. I love how rare it is and also the livery and box. It’s definitely the rarest A380. I got it off eBay.us from the UK.
